From there we blast through to Mt. Shasta and then hit Hwy 5 north. On 5 you can make time. The road was great gently winding it way through the hills on northern California. Before I can get my camera out, I hadn’t perfected this yet, we see the Oregon border and the speed limit reduces to 60 mph.

Somewhere in Southern Oregon we find a Wal-Mart, I can’t remember what for now. Seems like I’m always stopping at a Wal-Mart on road trips. It’s one of those places that has it all. Seems wrong on some level, but at the same time they can be a life saver. It was at this time we discover that the 2 way radios will not work. No problem I have a MP3 player and the tunes are making this trip great. An hour later and we are back on the road.

The rest of Oregon is one valley after another, after another… nice but long. The sun is starting to set when we hit the motel where we will meet up with VOL210. We find him sitting next to the pool with a cigar in his mouth and a smile on his face. Dang, it was good to see Jim. We unpack, head over to Burger Kind for dinner, then back to the motel, then over to the local pub for a brew, then back to the room. I’m out! Riding all day will make you sleep like a baby. I had done over 700 miles, not bad for first day.

Next morning we pack up and look for a place to find breakfast.
